The Woodlands – Diverse by Nature      David Matos, CPA

David Matos, CPAIn the past three years I have seen extraordinary growth, both economic and cultural in nature, in the Woodlands, Texas.  It has been mostly positive in every way possible, with only the exception being the expected traffic and utility related challenges.

When I moved to the Woodlands in 2006, I wondered what would happen if I left my position as Manager of Corporate Financial Reporting at Huntsman Corporation.  Well, I would not have that concern today.

In 2006, most people living in the Woodlands thought of it as home, but looked at Houston for their everyday commute to work.  Today that is no longer the case.  Today we call the Woodlands home and also view it as our workplace.  That is not only our reality, but also our vision for our community in the coming decade as we welcome some of the largest corporations in the world such as ExxonMobil.

The amazing impact all these changes are having on our community are a tribute to our founder, Mr. George Mitchell, who had the extraordinary vision of what we would become and planned for it accordingly.  His vision has made it possible for us to grow in a controlled manner with minimal disruptions to our daily routines.

Our community has it all:  parks, hospitals, shopping facilities, etc.  I often ask myself if I am dreaming or just living a dream.  I think it is both.

I feel the next 10 years will be just as exciting as the past 5, but as we continue to mature as a community, I expect our community to continue to become more diverse from a cultural standpoint.  This diversification will keep us on the top 5 best places to live in the US for years to come.
