For this month’s pick, Mia Wade – Manager at GenuWine – has picked a fitting summer wine to offset the Texas heat. Enjoy!

Trione Pinot Noir- Russian River Valley 2009Mia Wade

Winemaker- Scott Covington

1,114 Cases Produced

Trione produces excellent wines in many different varietals, but my favorite at the moment is their River Road Ranch Pinot Noir. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am a lover of Pinot Noir, but I am quite particular. I want something smooth but not too light, bright but not overly so. I like some oak, but the wine must be well-balanced and have a certain amount of finesse. I am so glad that Trione has produced such a gorgeous Pinot Noir and so I just had to share it with you!   – Mia

About the Vineyard:

The Trione River Road Ranch encompasses 115 acres situated on the western bench of the Santa Rosa Plain, in the heart of the Russian River Valley AVA. The well-drained sandy loam soils and fog-cooled nights are ideal for Pinot Noir vines and the varietal thrives in these conditions.

The grapes used in this vintage were harvested in early September by hand from four blocks with clones #155, 667, 777.  To accentuate the outstanding fruit flavors, we added twenty present whole clusters to each fermenter.   The wine aged fifteen months in French oak barrels (45% new).

Tasting Notes:

This beautiful Pinot boasts classic aromas of black cherry, sage and a slight earthiness reminiscent of forest floor; these characteristics are an honest expression of Russian River Valley Pinot and the Burgundian clones used in this vintage. The wine is silky and full on the palate, with a long, extensive finish.  This wine will age gracefully for another three to five years.
