THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Two-year-old Dylan Rivera of The Woodlands has been selected to light up Market Street and its 70-foot Christmas tree as part of the “Luxury in Lights” holiday spectacular to be hosted in Market Street’s Central Park on Thursday, November 21 at 6 p.m.

With the help of his family and a countdown from the crowd, Dylan, who is fighting brain cancer and the youngest ever selected as Market Street’s “Lighting Luminary,” will flip the switch to officially kick off the holiday season and start Market Street’s three-minute holiday light show, a dazzling display of flashing, multi-colored lights synchronized to holiday songs.

Market Street has honored a deserving child to start the holiday season at the shopping and dining destination since 2004.

The “Luxury in Lights” synchronized holiday light performance will continue evenings during the holidays, every hour on the half hour, from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Market Street is located in the heart of The Woodlands Town Center at the corner of Six Pines Drive and Lake Robbins Drive.

Sally Harris of The Woodlands said she was inspired to nominate Dylan after visiting with his mother, Stephanie Rivera, while at a football game of The Woodlands High School.

“Stephanie said she wished her baby could light the Christmas tree at Market Street,” says Harris. “I had to make it happen for her baby and her family.”

Ironically, the two met more than a year earlier. An oncology nurse, Stephanie cared for Sally’s mother as she was being treated for breast cancer.

“We learned about Dylan and what the Rivera family was going through just as my mother was completing her chemotherapy,” explains Harris. “Stephanie and I then realized our sons were friends at The Woodlands High School and our connection just grew from there. I cannot think of anyone or any family that deserves this more.”

After the debut of Market Street’s “Luxury in Lights,” families can enjoy musical entertainment, snow machines, magic elves and holiday carriage rides available on a first-come, first-served basis.
